Entry for May 8, 2007 ![]() As requested, here is a picture of the inscription on my Martin Trumpet. Unfortunately, I have not figured out a great lighting scheme to take nice pictures of inscriptions. If there are any photographers out there with tips, I will accept any advice you have to offer! Thanks! 2007-05-08 19:45:51 GMT

I saw your post on the Horn-u-copia site and thought I'd mention that Kenton Scott, who maintains that site, is also an instrument repair person and a very good one. He's done some fine work on horns I had when I lived near him in PA. Now I live near you in Grinnell, IA. Frank Heath --Frank heath <mailto:Bandwagon_@Yahoo.com>

Nice work! I am a photographer professionally and a former gigging saxophone player. Your photos are good. The problem with photographing the engraving is more in your camera setting than your lighting. You are probably too close to get good focus on the engraving with the camera's standard setting. You want to check your camera's manual for information about "macro" settings. This will allow you to make closeups! I would also like to add a comment in regards to old looking lacquer. Leave it! I hate to see an original finish altered. It's beautiful as is. I also know many a player who have an obsession about REMOVING lacquer from their beautifully finished horns. Keep up the good work. Hope to see more blog entries. Dale. |
